Upcoming Events to Think About
Dear Parents,
The Big Room is partaking in an illustration contest. This is optional, but the student who is chosen will have their picture put on the cover of our phone directory. Illustrations need to come in no later than September 7th.
For the 5th grade parents, I will be handing out the Teton Science School permission slips tomorrow and they are due back September 6th.
Another great day!
Cheers

Welcome To The Big Room
Hi! My name is Mrs. Chudzik,
and I will be your 4th through 6th grade teacher this year at Alta Elementary
School. I am so excited that you will be in my class this year! I can't wait to
meet you and start our year together. I know it’s going to be GREAT!
About Me:
I just moved to the area with
my husband Chris, one year old son Cody, and our dog Ace. We have been coming
up to the area for many years, so when the opportunity presented itself to
apply for a job I jumped on it. This will be my eighth year teaching. I have
taught in both rural and urban districts and truly loved both environments.
Recently I just finished my
Masters at the University of Colorado with an emphasis on Writing and Reading.
When I am not teaching you
will more than likely find me outside doing some sort of activity with my
family. I love to run, mountain bike, ski--if it’s outside, generally I’ll do
it.
Our Classroom:
Our classroom is going to be
a very busy, nurturing, and enrichment filled environment . Your help will be
needed and welcomed throughout the school year.
Our classroom environment is
structured by a variety of hands-on learning activities, whole-group and
small-group instruction, and learning
centers.
Communication:
Communication is essential,
and I will be sending or emailing a weekly newsletter about what we are doing
in school. You can also visit our class blog-- thebigroomalta.blogspot.com, (I will try and update it on a regular bases)
for weekly updates, pictures, helpful resources, and for you to see everything
that we are doing.
Please feel free to contact
me at school through a note, by email, or call me at school. I welcome your
thoughts and am looking forward to working together to make this a successful
year!
Classroom Behavior Plan:
At the beginning of the
school year the class and I will come up with a list of social norms for
various things we do in class. These may entail appropriate behaviors for small
group, whole group. free time, and center work. Along with these norms, the
entire class will partake in the Classroom Economy where part of their pay will
be contingent on positive or poor behavior.
Homework:
In the past I have sent home
homework on Monday that aligns with the weeks curriculum and then expect it to
come back Friday. This has been an effective way to do homework in my classroom
as students may have certain things to
do throughout the week. I find that students can then do as much or little
homework as they like throughout the week as long as it comes back on Friday.
"The more that you read,
The more things you will know. The more that you learn, The more places you'll
go." Dr. Seuss
I look forward to seeing you
very soon in our classroom next week! Enjoy the rest of your summer!
Mrs. Chudzik
